As part of “The New Vanguard II”, I’ll be showing a new body of work entitled “Li’l Baja’s Last Ride”, based in large part on the road between my hometown neighborhood in Los Angeles and Lancaster, and the tragedy the befell “Li’l Baja”, my old car, on that very same route.

“The Lancaster Museum of Art and History, in collaboration with Los Angeles' Thinkspace Projects, is pleased to present The New Vanguard II, a dynamic group exhibition of works by international artists working in the New Contemporary art movement. The highly anticipated follow up to 2016's successful first iteration of The New Vanguard, on view in tandem with this year's POW WOW! Antelope Valley will feature special solo projects by artists Sandra Chevrier, Seth Armstrong, Craig 'Skibs' Barker, and Brooks Salzwedel.

A sequel to what was in 2016 the most extensive presentation of work from the New Contemporary movement in a Southern Californian museum venue to date, The New Vanguard II, in keeping with the first, will present a diverse and expansive group of curated new works. The group show will include new pieces by ABCNT, Adam Caldwell, Alex Garant, Alex Hall, Alexandra Manukyan, Amy Sol, Andrew Schoultz, Benjamin Garcia, Brian Mashburn, Carl Cashman, CASE, Dan Witz, Drew Merritt, EINE, Ekundayo, Ermsy, Esao Andrews, Evoca1, Fernando Chamarelli, Fidia Falaschetti, Fintan Magee, Helen Bur, Hueman, Hula, Huntz Liu, Jaune, Joel Daniel Phillips, Jolene Lai, Juan Travieso, Kaili Smith, Kathy Ager, Kikyz1313, Laura Berger, Lauren YS, Lonac, Mark Dean Veca, Mars-1, Martin Whatson, Masakatsu Sashie, Meggs, Michael Reeder, Milu Correch, The Perez Bros, PichiAvo, RISK, Robert Xavier Burden, Robert Proch, Ronzo, Saner, Scott Listfield , Sergio Garcia, Seth Armstrong, Snik, Stephanie Buer, Super A, Super Future Kid, TikToy, Tran Nguyen, Van Arno, and Yosuke Ueno.

Alongside the focused solo presentations by Chevrier, Armstrong, Barker, and Salzwedel, the exhibition will include site-specific installations by Andrew Hem, Dan Witz, HOTxTEA, Isaac Cordal, Jaune, Laurence Vallieres, and Spenser Little.

A movement unified as much by its diversity as its similitude, 'New Contemporary' has come to denote an important heterogeneity of styles, media, contexts, and activations over the course of its establishment since the 90s. Unified in its fledgling beginnings by a founding countercultural impulse searching for its own nomenclature, the New Contemporary movement's shifting and inclusive designations have offered alternative narratives over the years to those popularized by the dominant art establishment and its conceptual predilections.

Though stylistically disparate, the work belonging to this rapidly expansive movement reveals a desire to reference the popular, social, and subcultural domains of contemporary experience, grounding, rather than rarifying, imagery in the familiar. Looking to the urban landscape and the kaleidoscopic shift of individual identities within it, these artists use the figurative and narrative to anchor their work in the accessible and aesthetically relatable. A fundamentally democratic stance governs the ambitions of this new guard, ever in search of novel ways to expand rather than to contract.”

September 27th 2018, 8 pm, marks the opening of the second big exhibition in the short history of the URBAN NATION MUSEUM FOR URBAN CONTEMPORARY ART: “UN—DERSTAND THE POWER OF ART AS A SOCIAL ARCHITECT“. In five years, URBAN NATION has grown “from vision to reality”. Throughout an eventful year since its opening, “the impossible museum” became „the living museum“ with around 600 visitors daily. With the new exhibition, “UN–DERSTAND THE POWER OF ART AS A SOCIAL ARCHITECT“, URBAN NATION takes a look back at its own history and one into the future.

FEATURING WORK FROM 40 LEADING ARTISTS

Opening Reception : 07.05.18, 6 – 9pm

Exhibition Dates: 07.06.18 – 08.05.18

"StolenSpace Gallery is delighted to present, ‘Wish You Were Here’, an eclectic showcase featuring original works from 40 leading urban contemporary artists, including D*Face, Shepard Fairey, Alexis Diaz, Herakut, Pichiavo and many, many more.

Prompted with the prototypical postcard sentiment, each artist reimagines the phrase and translates it into their own visual language – setting their work in conversation with the many other creative minds featured in the show. Whereas some choose to uphold the typical associations of travel and summer vacation, others select less conventional interpretations, such as unrequited love, detachment and separation. The result of this variation offers a genuine overview of the vast and consistently increasing diversity of urban artists working cross the globe today – a diversity with StolenSpace is honoured to represent.

Featuring work by; Adam Caldwell, Alexander Chappell, Alexis Diaz, Augustine Kofie, Beau Stanton, Ben Frost, Buff Monster, Case Maclaim, C215, D*Face, David Bray, Drew Leshko, Erik Jones, Florence Blanchard, Herakut, Jaime Molina, Jason Woodside, Josie Morway, Kai and Sunny, Kevin Cyr, Mando Marie, Miss Van, Mysterious Al, Nic Bowers, Okuda, Paul Stephenson, PICHIAVO, Pref, RYCA, Remi Rough, Seth Armstrong, Shepard Fairey, Sylvia Ji, The London Police, The Lost Object, Von, Vinnie Nylon, Will Barras, Zest"

Spoke Art is pleased to present 12 x 12, a group dynamic exhibition featuring over 50 local and international artists working in a 12 x 12 format. We challenged some of our favorite artists to work within a 12 x 12 inch space and left the rest up to them. The result is a stunning display of the endless possibilities contained within the bounds of the composition.

Working in a variety of media including painting, embroidery, sculpture and beyond, each artist presents their unique style while adhering to the size parameters. Figures, landscapes and abstract forms dwell in each piece, inviting the viewer into the realm contained in each work.
